NSW Police is shopping a proposal that could allow people to report instances of alleged cybercrime and other "low-level, non-life threatening crimes" online or via a smartphone app.
The Force today opened an online consultation on the plan via the Have Your Say website.
"Users will be able to register and create their own account from where they can interact with police and track the progress of their reported crimes," it said.
"Only certain types of low-level non-life threatening crimes will be eligible to be reported online."
The consultation lists a number of crimes that could potentially come under the online reporting plan, subject to the opinion of NSW residents.
Such crimes may include theft of property from vehicles, graffiti and vandalism, and could allow residents to upload photos or video of the alleged results.
The organisation is also canvassing whether or not to allow citizens to report cybercrime instances in the same manner.
The consultation closes on September 1.
