The Government’s statutory authority for delivering the carbon tax has created a new CIO position as IT transitions from delivery of basic systems to day-to-day operations.
The Clean Energy Regulator was set up in April 2012 as the government body responsible for administering the carbon price mechanism, as well as several other energy initiatives.
It has been building out systems and capabilities since to meet the needs of the new agency under a Delivery Division, which has been tasked with delivering IT functions.
The agency is currently in the process of transitioning out IT from the Delivery Division into operation areas as it nears completion of an “intense period” of IT delivery. It declined to provide detail.
As such it has created a chief information officer role to help facilitate the transition.
The CIO will also be responsible for the development and delivery of the agency’s IT strategy and “championing” ongoing IT investment priorities across the regulator, an agency spokesperson said.
The CIO will report to the chief operations officer within the operations divisions.
The regulator is still in the process of finalising the size of its internal IT team under the new CIO.

“The CIO will provide advice and lead the operations of ICT services to ensure alignment with priorities for strategic directions through good governance and informed decision making,” the job ad states.
“The role is complex and diverse requiring innovative, delivery focused and cost effective solutions to complex business problems.”
