BP outsources global communications set-up

Contract expected to reduce complexity and cost.

Oil giant BP has outsourced its global communications set-up to Deutsche Telekom’s T-Systems and Siemens Enterprise Communications (SEC) for an undisclosed sum.

T-Systems will provide voice and data services to the company over a period of five years, while SEC will supply a managed service to support the firm’s voice needs, including managed telephone and audio visual services.

The five-year agreement is part of BP's drive to deliver "significant cost savings" through an efficiency programme.

According to BP, the deal marks the introduction of a new multi-sourcing model for communications, which aims to significantly reduce the number of suppliers to lower the cost of operations while simplifying its existing network and ensuring quality of service.
