Amdocs sees NBN expanding provider market

New players to emerge.

Amdocs has tipped an expansion in the service provider market in Australia and New Zealand in the wake of the next-generation network rollouts being built in both nations.

Regional vice president Ananda Subbiah said the company believed that trans-sectoral growth on the back of the NBN in Australia and UFB (Ultra Fast Broadband) in New Zealand would drive business opportunities outside the traditional carrier space.

Trans-sectoral growth would see vertical industry players create and sell custom service offerings that targeted specific needs - for example, e-Health.

"We believe a new set of [non-traditional] players will emerge and it's really up to our imagination how that's going to evolve," Subbiah said.

"The transformation in this industry is not just happening within the core with the NBN and [with] the Telstra's of this world. It's going way beyond that.

"So it's not just about the NBN itself but the whole ecosystem that sits on top that is actually becoming quite challenging".

Amdocs traditionally sold operational and business support systems (OSS/BSS) into Telstra, Optus, AAPT and Vodafone.

They remained key customers in Australia but Amdocs was also keen to reposition itself as a provider of systems integration and managed services, not just software licenses.
