Airservices Australia has bought software from US vendor Quintiq to manage its air traffic workforce.
The company has air traffic controllers working from two major centres in Melbourne and Brisbane, four terminal control units and 26 towers at international and regional airports.
It also provides Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) services at 21 of the nation's busiest airports.
Following the roll-out to air traffic control areas, ARFF will move from existing manual planning to Quintiq intelligent rostering "over time".
Quintiq will begin implementing the solution this month. The phased roll out was due to be completed in the first half of next year.
